Emmaville's Tree Planting Day

27th November 2024

Almost 140 children were involved in planting tree and shrub saplings around our school grounds, in the first round of efforts to develop biodiversity at Emmaville.  We are already lucky enough to have lots of green spaces that include quite a few trees and bushes, but there is always room for improvement, and with funding from the Royal Forestry Society and Green the UK, we were able to take part in National Tree Week in style.

Jess Lloyd, education officer at RFS Teaching Trees, spent a day at Emmaville, teaching us how to dig holes, plant saplings and take care of them with canes and guards.  Everyone who took part really enjoyed the experience, and we now have three new areas of trees and a long stretch of new hedging.

Eve McShannon, Gateshead Council's Woodland Creation Officer also came along with a photographer to see our fantastic work.  She was very impressed with how well the children worked, and is now very keen to help us get funding to finish the hedge along the long side of our field.
