Emmaville Primary School

Cross Country

2nd October 2024

A group of children from Year 3 - Year 6 represented Emmaville at the 2024 GSSP Cross Country event.  The children were selected after a rigorous process of class and year group heats.  The event was held at Watergate Park, and as always was brilliantly organised by members of the GSSP.

Throughout the afternoon, our children were so well behaved and showed great support to their fellow team members as they participated in their races.  At the end of a very exciting event, came the much anticipated results section.  The podium was set for 1st, 2nd and 3rd places and we were delighted when some of the children's efforts were recognised within the results.  Thomas in Asia came 2nd in his race and received an individual medal, as did Freddie who is in Year 5 in Oceania, he also secured a 2nd place.  Sienna in Africa came 3rd in her individual race, so she also took to the podium.  Medals were awarded for team positions, and again Emmaville received 3 sets of team medals, which resulted in Emmaville being awarded the GSSP shield, acknowledging them as Gateshead Primary Schools Cross Country Champions, woo hoo! It is the first time that the children from Emmaville have received the shield, so to say we were thrilled, is an understatement.

Mr Eliott and I were delighted with the children's achievements; however, what made us most proud was their sportsmanship, coupled with the encouragement they gave to one another.  They not only represented themselves and their families very well, they were tremendous ambassadors for our school.
