Week beginning 9th December
England were very excited to experience African drumming as part of our Enrichment Week celebrating Black music, history and art. The class enjoyed playing a range of rhythmic patterns including 'give a dog a bone, woof woof woof' and 'I like chocolate' before also singing a traditional African tune.
Week beginning 25th November
This week Year 1 enjoyed sharing their love of reading through a visit to Crawcrook Library. They listened to a winter-themed story, 'The Big Freeze', went on a treasure hunt around the space to find Christmas jumper images which spelled out a word and enjoyed sharing some stories on their carpet with their friends. The whole class were a credit to our school and showed fantastic manners, listening skills and enthusiasm.
Week beginning 18th November
This half term England have been experimenting with light in our Science lessons. In our lesson this week, we learned about how objects can be transparent, translucent or opaque. The class were challenged to make a house for a small toy using materials that fit this criteria including something transparent for a window and opaque for a wall. They showed great team-work and helped one another create fantastic houses, and enjoyed using a torch to test if their house had enough light!
Week beginning 11th November
This week England have been whirling and twirling as part of their PE lessons all about 'weather dancing'. The class have worked together and used different movements to represent a range of weathers including snow, wind, ice and rain. They then worked in small groups to create routines using the weathers they had explored.

Week beginning 4th November
We have had a fantastic week beck at school in England class! We have enjoyed learning about a range of new topics including Jack in the Beanstalk in Englsh, Online Safety in Computing and painting with different types of material in Art. In Maths we have been exploring different ways to make shapes using t2D and 3D objects.

Weeks beginning 14th & 21st October
England have completed their first half term of Year 1! The class have blown Miss Pearson away with their fantastic instruction writing based on the Gingerbread Men we made last week. The class showed great team work following the recipe, and used their phonics knowledge to write some amazing instructions using imperative verbs and capital letters, finger spaces and full stops.
Week beginning 7th October
This week England have been exploring their programming skills in computing, creating routes for their robot to follow using masking tape. We worked in groups to program our robots to follow the routes using a command sequence with the forwards, backwards and turning keys. The class showed great problem solving skills and teamwork to successfully complete the challenge.
Week Beginning 30th September
England have had a fantastic week of learning. We have been exploring algorithms in Computing by making our robots move, written our stories based on the Gingerbread Men in English and learning how to use skipping ropes in PE. I have been so impressed with the children's enthusiasm and positive attitude to learning in all activities this week. Well done England!
Week beginning 23rd September
We have been great mathematicians in England Class this week, learning all about the symbols >, < and =. As a class we have used these symbols and our great maths vocabulary to compare numbers using cubes and writing number sentences to match.
In other lessons we also enjoyed making Jack and the Beanstalk levers in DT, and learning about the Great Fire of London in History!
Week beginning 16th September
We have had a fantastic week full of learning in England Class. The children have had lots of opportunities to practice their fine motor skills through cutting activities during the week, including making slider mechanisms in DT and stick puppets to retell The Gingerbread Man in English.
Week beginning 2nd September
Welcome to the England class page! We have had a fantastic first week and I have been so impressed with how well the children have settled into Year 1, along with their enthusiasm for learning. This week we have learned about England, thought about our hopes and goals for what we would like to achieve in Year 1 and welcomed parents into the classroom for our Meet the Teacher session.
