Week beginning 29th June 2026
We had a fantastic time on our trip on Thursday. In geography, we have been learning all about our local area so we thought it would be a good idea to explore some of the landmarks even further. First, we set off on a coach ride to visit the Angel of the North - it was amazing to see it up close and find out some more facts and information about it. We then travelled over to the Baltic where we visited the viewing gallery and completed some art and map work of the River Tyne, The Bridges and The Glasshouse. Our views were fantastic. We also took part in a range of workshops including sculpture, drama and a quiz. The children also got a chance to explore the different activities on offer - our big favourites were the sensory room and the art area.
The children were brilliant ambassadors for our school throughout the day and earned a whopping 12 marbles for their jar! Great work everyone!
Week beginning 22nd June 2026
This week I would like to celebrate the amazing Historians we have in Northern Ireland class. We learned all about Emmeline Pankhurst and the Suffragette movement. We had a great in depth discussion about whether we agreed that women should have been given the right to vote - we used our Oracy skills brilliantly to agree, build and challenge each others thoughts and opinions in a respectful way. The children then had lots of fun looking in our box of delights at lots of artefacts from this period. What a super lesson we had!
Week beginning 15th June 2026
This half term in Science we have been focussing on 'Plants'. We have looked at different types of plants and how they change over the course of the year. We have also been thinking about what plants need to survive. The week we started an investigation into how different environments affect the growth of plants. We are going to be observing our seeds for the next week and looking closely at which conditions are the best to help a plant survive. The children made some very good predictions - we will see if we are correct in the coming weeks.
Have a lovely weekend everyone!
Week beginning 8th June 2026
This week in maths we have been looking at measurement. We have used both rulers and metre sticks to measure items from the classroom and the outdoor environment. We thought about which measuring tool would be most appropriate to use for the items and chose whether to measure the length or width. The children worked fantastically well with their partners. Next week we will be using scales to explore weight.
Week beginning 1st June 2026
Welcome back to our final few weeks of the school year - it is hard to believe that we are approaching the end of year 2.
This week I would love to celebrate all of the fantastic progress the children have made across all curriculum areas. They have worked so hard all year and I am particularly proud of the beautiful presentation the children are using within their books. They have worked hard to improve their presentation and some of us are even joining our handwriting now, which looks absolutely wonderful.
Keep working hard for our final few weeks Northern Ireland - you superstars!
Week beginning 18th May 2026
Happy half term everyone! It has been an absolutely wonderful half term and we are so proud of how hard the children have been working. This week we performed the song 'The Climb' using British Sign Language as part of an award with Gateshead Schools Sports Partnership. Our theme was 'determination' and we thought this fitted perfectly. What an amazing performance you all produced - we were so proud of you all.
Have a lovely break and we will see you back at school on 1st June.
Week beginning 11th May 2026
This week I would love to celebrate our times tables work. We are working so hard to master our 1, 2, 5 and 10 times tables. The children enjoy lots of activities to help them embed this important maths skill including songs, quizzes, quick fire questions and using the counting stick. I am attaching one of our favourite songs - the children love it and I am sure they would love to share it with you at home.
Keep up the amazing work Northern Ireland!
Week beginning 5th May 2026
This half term in Science we have been looking at electricity. We have been looking at everyday electricity, how we use electricity and how to keep safe when using electrical devices. This week we put all of skills and knowledge to the test and built our own electrical circuits. The children did a brilliant job of predicting how to make their circuit and also problem solving if things didn't quite go to plan. By the end of the session, all of the children were able to make their bulb light up successfully.
Super work Team Northern Ireland!
Week beginning 27th April 2026
For this half term we are lucky enough to be recieving some tennis coaching as one of our weekly PE sessions. Ian, from Blaydon Tennis club, will be teaching us lots of brilliant tennis skills. So far the children have been amazing and are thoroughly enjoying their coaching. Fantastic work Northern Ireland class!
Week beginning 20th April 2026
Welcome back everyone! It is lovely to see you all back at school - and even nicer to have some sunshine too! This week in English we have been looking at possessive apostrophes. We learnt that a possessive apostrophe is an important piece of punctuation which shows if a noun belongs to another noun. To help us remember this, we played a hat game on the interactive whiteboard then used this knowledge to write our own sentences on a whiteboard while remembering to use our possessive apostrophes. Great work Northern Ireland.
