Emmaville Primary School

North America Year 6

Welcome to the North America Year 6 Class Page.  Here, you can find out about everything that we've been doing this term.
Friday 26th June

This week, our Year 6 pupils took part in an incredibly valuable and memorable CPR training session, delivered by St John Ambulance.

The session began with an engaging introduction to first aid and the important role it plays in everyday life. Pupils discussed real-life scenarios where quick thinking and basic first aid knowledge can make a life-saving difference. It was inspiring to see how enthusiastic and attentive the children were as they realised just how powerful these skills can be.

During the practical part of the session, pupils learned how to perform CPR (cardiopulmonary resuscitation) safely and effectively. Using training mannequins, they practised chest compressions and learned the correct rhythm and technique. They also explored how to check for danger, assess responsiveness, and call for help – all crucial steps in an emergency situation.

The instructors= from St John Ambulance wasfantastic, providing clear guidance, encouragement and reassurance throughout. They ensured every pupil had the opportunity to practise and feel confident in what they were doing.

By the end of the session, our Year 6 pupils had gained important life skills that will stay with them for years to come. Beyond learning CPR, they developed confidence, teamwork, and a strong sense of responsibility for helping others.

A huge thank you to St John Ambulance for supporting our pupils and delivering such an important and engaging session. We are extremely proud of how maturely and respectfully Year 6 approached this experience.

Who knows – one day, these skills could help them save a life!

This week, most of Year 6 have been on our residential to London, which was an unforgettable experience, filled with exciting visits to famous landmarks and lots of engaging activities that helped us learn more about the city’s history and culture. The children represented the school brilliantly throughout the trip, showing excellent behaviour, enthusiasm, and kindness towards one another. They embraced every opportunity with positive attitudes, making us all incredibly proud of the way they conducted themselves and the memories they created together. For photos of the trip, please check out the residential section of the school website.

Year 6 enjoyed a fantastic educational visit to Washington Wetland Centre this week, where they spent the day exploring a variety of habitats and learning about the plants and animals that live within them. The visit provided an excellent opportunity for the children to develop their understanding of ecosystems, biodiversity and how living things are adapted to their environments. Throughout the day, the children were enthusiastic, curious and eager to ask questions, making the most of every learning opportunity.

One of the highlights of the trip was taking part in fieldwork activities, including pond dipping, where the children investigated the fascinating creatures living beneath the water's surface. They carefully collected and identified different species, applying their scientific knowledge in a real-world setting. We were also fortunate to enjoy lovely weather throughout the day, which made exploring the wetlands even more enjoyable. The children represented the school exceptionally well, demonstrating excellent behaviour, respect and maturity at all times. We are very proud of the way they engaged with the activities and embraced the experience. Some of the children even commented that they will work there in the future!

A group of our Year 6 pupils recently represented the school at the Ryton Cricket Festival, competing against an impressive field of 21 teams from across the area. Throughout the day, the children demonstrated excellent teamwork, determination and sportsmanship, putting their cricketing skills into practice in a series of exciting matches. We are delighted to announce that one of the Emmaville teams achieved an outstanding second-place finish, a fantastic accomplishment against such strong competition.

This success is a testament to the hard work and commitment shown by the children throughout the year. Many of the pupils have benefited from attending our cricket club, where they have developed their batting, bowling and fielding skills. In addition, the PE sessions led by Romesh from Ryton Cricket Club have provided valuable coaching and match experience, helping to build the children's confidence and understanding of the game. We are incredibly proud of all the pupils who took part and represented Emmaville so brilliantly throughout the festival.

The children have tracked their achievements throughout their "cricket journey" and have made the video below to showcase what they have learnt.

We are incredibly proud of our Year 6 pupils, who recently completed their SATs tests this week with determination, resilience and a fantastic attitude. The children worked exceptionally hard throughout the year, showing great commitment in preparing for the assessments. During SATs week, they approached every challenge with confidence and maturity, supporting one another and demonstrating all the qualities we value at our school.

To celebrate their hard work and perseverance, the children enjoyed a well-deserved treat day packed with fun and excitement. They had the opportunity to go bowling, ride the dodgems and spend time in the arcade, creating lots of happy memories with their friends. Throughout the day, our Year 6 pupils represented the school brilliantly, displaying excellent behaviour, respect and enthusiasm wherever they went. We are immensely proud of each and every one of them and hope they enjoyed celebrating their achievements together.

Friday 8th May

As SATs week approaches, we would like to take a moment to recognise the incredible effort and dedication shown by our Year 6 pupils. Throughout the year, they have worked extremely hard, demonstrating resilience, determination and a positive attitude towards their learning. We are immensely proud of everything they have achieved so far and the commitment they have shown in preparing for next week's assessments.

While we know that they will all try their very best, it is important to remember that SATs are only a small snapshot of what they can do and do not define them as individuals. The children have already shown us so many wonderful qualities, including creativity, kindness, perseverance and a love of learning, which cannot be measured by a test. We have every confidence that they will approach next week with the same positive attitude and work ethic they have displayed all year. Good luck, Year 6 – we are incredibly proud of you and know that you will do your very best!

Friday 1st May

This week, we were treated to another music workshop, with a visit from the Gateshead Music Services Team.  To mark the forthcoming summer of football, the session comprised of songs from the various World Cup competitions over the years.  We sang, danced, rattled and banged along to songs like 'Three Lions' and 'Waka Waka'.  The only down side is that this was our very last workshop at Emmaville...
Friday 24th April

A glorious afternoon helped us to end our first week back with a session of cricket on the field, made even better by Ryton Cricket Club coach Romesh.  We practised our bowling skills (it's so hard to keep our leading arm straight!), as well as our batting and fielding technique.
