Friday 10th May
It has been an absolutely fantastic week in England class this week following on from a lovely bank holiday weekend. Although we have had a shorter week than usual, we have been so busy! We have been learning all about Captain Cook in History, discussed how to be a good friend in PSHE and have continued to work on our attacking and defending in PE.
On Wednesday, we were invited to a Yr1 Multi-Skills event at Thorp Academy. We walked from school in the lovely sunshine up to Thorp where we took part in some brilliant activities ran by the Yr 7 and Year 12 sports leaders. We completed lots of activities where we used skills of throwing and catching, kicking balls, bouncing basketballs and jumping. It was a very warm afternoon so we made sure we had lots of water and rest in between. We had an amazing time and enjoyed taking part in the afternoon. I was so proud of everyone for their enthusiasm and sportsmanship.
Have a lovely weekend!

It has been a super week in England this week full of lots of super learning. We have been on a tree hunt in Science, learning all about money and coins in Maths and explored what aboriginal art is in our art lesson.
This week in PE, we completed our final lesson on the unit of Athletics. The focus of our lesson was to practise our throwing skills and aiming for a target. We started the session of by going into two teams and having a battle of who could get rid of the most beanbags from their side. We had so much fun and both teams managed to win one game each. We then moved on to practising throwing our beanbags towards targets. We set up 3 different stations for us to practice some different mini games. The first game was aiming for the beanbag to get as far up the ladder as possible. The second game was called roller ball. We had to roll a ball through the 2 cones however we made it trickier by making the distance between the cones smaller. The last game was hit the target. In our mini teams, we took it in turns to throw the beanbag as close to the cone as possible. The winner was the person who had hit their beanbag closest to the cone.
Have a lovely long bank holiday weekend everyone!

It has been a fantastic week here in England class full of lots of exciting learning about garden plants in Science, finding out all about William Shakespeare in History and we have continued with our exploring of printing in Art by creating our very own stencils.
This week, we have embarked on the exciting journey of storytelling and innovation! Inspired by the classic tale of the magic porridge pot, we have put our creative minds to work and have designed our very own stories. On Wednesday, we have created our very own innovated story maps to go alongside our innovated stories. As a class, we changed our class story to be a magic sweet pot, found by a little boy called Coby who has to say the magic words ‘Abracadabra cook pot!’ to make it start cooking. We can’t wait to see the magical tales they will write next week for the story. Hopefully some of these brilliant stories will feature on our writer of the month board.
Have a lovely weekend everyone!

It has been such a busy first week back in England class this week. Our trainee class teacher, Miss Ferguson, is going to be teaching us in more lessons in the next coming weeks and will be sharing with you weekly on our class page what we have been up to.
In our bustling year 1 classroom this week, our young artists embarked on an exciting journey into the world of printing! The children dove into various printing techniques, exploring natural materials such as vegetables and plants. As a class we explored the technical elements of printing, but also discovered the joy of self-expression, and the unique patterns each object made when we printed them onto the page in different ways. The children enjoyed the printing process and embraced the lesson with enthusiasm and determination, showcasing their unique printing outcomes with pride.
In addition to this, our learners delved into the fascinating world of plants in Science. This week we started our lesson of by exploring all about wild plants. To support our knowledge of common and uncommon wild plants in their local area, the we went on a plant hunt. We explored the school grounds and used tally charts to record our findings.
Have a lovely weekend everyone!
